Flying With Injured Wings
On the occasion of World Disability Day (3rd December),I'm sharing a real story of a brave Indian girl who is physically challenged, but you decide, whether she is 'Handicapped'.
September 2015,I was waiting for a local train to go Mumbai, for celebrating 'Ganesh Chaturthi'(A festival of worshiping Lord Ganesha). The train arrived on time. Most of the seats were vacant.I grabbed the seat closer to the door.My destination was 1.30 hrs away. So,I plugged headphones to avoid boredom.
After 20 minutes,The train stopped at Thane Station (Mumbai).I saw one girl,She was carrying a heavy college bag on her shoulders, which was loaded with too many ambitions & dreams. She was struggling to get into the train because her right leg was partially impaired. She stepped into the train without taking anybody's help.
I was looking at her with dead-alive expressions. She was putting too many efforts for every single step.I moved to window side & offered her to seat. Her physical pain could be understood through her expressions. She sat on the seat but it sounded like she fell.Unlike other teenagers. She didn't get busy with her phone. She was continuously looking at the passing stations without blinking her eyelids.Maybe, she was observing the pace of life.
After few minutes,She stood to get off from the train. She was trying to hold all handles to balance herself. Her body language stated that she is independent & she doesn't need help.As the train stopped, she jumped out on the platform, she balanced herself & moved towards her dreams.
Suddenly,I remembered, there was an official holiday on that day due to Ganesh Chaturthi. But there were some private classes were running for which that handicap girl was traveling.I landed on my destination & stood in a long queue of hundreds of people for 4 hrs. to get a chance to worship the Lord Ganesha, and to beg something for me.
While standing in the queue,I noticed few differences between the handicap girl to whom I saw on the train & the crowd,I was standing with. The handicapped girl didn't take help, though she was actually in need.At the other side, all the physically fit people were standing in the queue & expecting the God to help them. This thought raised a question in my mind,Who was handicap the girl or the crowd?
The 'Heroic' girl of this real story deserves a great salute,Share this story with proud!
