The Strenger

“My name is Amarkant,Currently 20 yrs old,My life is little different than others because of my 40% blindness.But my family expect me to do all the things which other do.I am sharing one of my real life incident took place in the year 2014.

My Dad wanted me to go for basic computer course which was having Govt. certification.But it was little difficult for me to give online exam on the computer because of my blindness.Finally I took admission on the basis of my Handicap Certificate.There was special provision for Handicaps.I took admission for the 3 months training.

28^th July,It was my first day in the computer training class.I choose a desktop which was near to the window.But I was finding difficulty in looking at small texts and mouse pointer in the monitor.The trainer changed the display settings for me but it was not satisfactory for me.However I managed with that.I by hearted the keyboard.I completed my training now I have to give an online exam for Govt. certificate.I got a center for the exam.

I reached at center before 1 hr. with my brother and a friend.I little tension free because I applied as handicap so it was expected that I will get extra time and a reader fpr the questions.We talked with the head of the class which was the center for my exam.I said,”Sir,I’m handicap,Do I need to submit my handicap certificate to you?”

Sir said,”Yes,You have to submit. Wait let me check the list,what is your name?”

I replied,”Amarkant Prajapati…”

Sir checked a list and he said,”No there is no Amarkant in the list of handicap.You’re handicap certificate is not attached.You have to give exam as like others.”

It was really a shocking thing for me.Because I require extra time to complete the exam.At the same time a reader for reading the question.But I had no option.I thought to do my best.If I’ll get fail then I’ll do next attempt.With this mindset I entered in the exam hall.The lighting arrangement was insufficient for me.I had to fill details before exam start.I was unable to read and fill the details.I asked supervisor to fill my details.She was similar to my age.While filling my details she asked me with tension,”Can you do this exam by own?”

I answered,”I don’t know.But I will try my best.”

The online exam was started everyone started to solve and I was trying to read the first question.The fonts were very small It was wasting my time since I have to complete exam with everyone.The supervisor said,”Wait I’ll read for you.”She was reading and I was clicking on the right answers.There was little typing work but I was unable to see the keys.I started typing by rolling my fingers on keyboard.The Supervisor exclaimed with surprise,”Have you by hearted all the keys? You are typing accurately without seeing on the keyboard….Excellent !!”

She continued saying,”Wait take off your hands from keyboard & mouse.Let me do this otherwise you will fail to attend all question this is because you are wasting more time in finding mouse pointers & keys.So instruct me I’ll do on behalf of you.”

I started giving instructions for the solutions of practical questions.Since there was 8 other students in the hall I was instructing in very slow voice and most of the time I was using non-verbal ways of communications.The supervisor was looking at my screens,she was helping as well as she was supervising the hall.She was doing two tasks simultaneously.I was instructing her like- Go to start >All Programes >MS Word >Home tab etc.

While solving whenever she was getting time she was asking questions like, How do you study Amarkant? Have you met any doctor? Is there any solution for this?..Finally exam time got over.My paper of online submitted & after next few minutes I got my result I got 88 marks,I solved two ans incorrect.But 2 students got failed.

The supervisor Mam asked me to wait for 5 minutes for the print out of result.I was looking at the desktop and thinking that I did it.Now only one thing was remaimig,I wanted to say ‘Thanks’ to the supervisor for helping me.After few minutes mam gave me printout of result.It was perfect time to say thanks to her.I said,”Thank You mam!!”  But as I heard ‘Welcome’ I noticed change in the voice of mam.I asked immediately “Where is that Mam who was in Supervision?”

The reply was,”She was only for supervision.She went 5 minutes ago.”

I got a mega shock.I ran to the groundfloor for finding that Mam in campus.But she was not there.I looked for her.But I was too late.The pain of not saying thanks was more than the happiness of getting  Pass.My brother asked me,”Are you looking for someone?” Iwas not knowing her name,I answered,”Yeah,Looking for the strenger who helped me…!!
